Chew on this: 15 best pizza slices and the perfect pizza tour in NYC🍕
There's nothing like a NY style slice so we are counting down the best ones...
Hi guys! It’s been a bit! Fashion week kind of took over my life for a quick sec. But happy to be back for a pizza round-up!
To preface this is strictly NY STYLE pizza. This list would be so much longer if it included Neapolitan, bar style, Detroit style etc.
But while we are on the topic the Neapolitan pizza at Una Pizza Neopolitano is unbeatable and Leo Sourdough is one of my favorite places to have wine and pizza in the city. And low key the Margherita pizza at Casa Cipriani is insane (I finish a full pie every time I go). I am not huge on Detroit/deep dish square pies but Ace’s Pizza is top. Roberta’s of course but I haven’t tried it since all the expansions (I assume quality went down) so not really sure where they stand but the bee sting was my obsession from 2016-2019 and Bushwick location only!
*Also I am trying Ceres Pizza this week so if that makes the list I will update it*
Lets begin!
Lucia Pizza - Mostly for the creamed spinach pie! I would reccomend having these hot and freshly made. They aren’t as good after sitting out. But a freaking delicious slice with multiple locations (they just opened on the UES). And they have wine bar attached at their Soho location that’s cute!
L’Industrie - There’s definitely a different vibe now that they are in the West Village but it’s still the same amazing slices as before. The burrata pie is a must (and I say pie because 1 slice is never enough). Also love their Concord grape gelato and sandwiches
Mama’s Too - This also had a vibe switch when it opened in the West Village and really created a boom in popularity but still one of the best slices (I also like the poached pear, the angry nonna, and the vodka but those are square slices so not discussing today)! I prefer the UWS location
Lucali - Every time I have Lucali I remember why it’s the best. Not sure if it’s the intimate, exclusive atmosphere that plays a role but I don’t care it’s delicious. And obsessed with the pepperoni chips
F&F - I tried this for the first time on a Brooklyn pizza tour for my friend’s bday and instantly fell in love. Even after having maybe 15 slices of pizza I still wanted to finish my slice from here so that means something… They also opened a full restaurant which I hear is amazing
Chrissy’s Pizza - I have been obsessed with Chrissy’s pizza since the first time I tried it at their East Village pop-up. Fresh parm and a drizzle of olive oil on every pie. I crave it constantly and hate that it’s so far from me in Greenpoint. I would eat this every day if I could lol But also it’s one you have to eat hot. I don’t like it as much cold or room temp
Rubirosa - Some say overrated, I say a classic. I have been coming here since high school and somehow it tastes EXACTLY the same despite its constant popularity. It’s a staple girls-night-in delivery order for me and my friends (we warm it up and it’s perfect) but in person really is the way. Also I know this round-up is slices so this is misleading since its pies but I couldn’t not mention it!
Fini - With a stipulation that this is just about their lemon white slice. I don’t really care for their other slices although they are pretty solid. I travel to BK for the lemon slice exclusively (and don’t neglect the lemon you need a good squeeze)
Razza - This is also a restaurant pie so not sure if it’s allowed lol but adding anyway. The vodka and burrata pies are amazing although aren’t really NY style (the cheese and pepperoni could land as a hybrid though)
Scarr’s - Scarr’s in my opinion has gone kind of downhill recently and I find myself forgetting about it. However, a hotboi or a hot honey + pepperoni slice is an otherworldly experience
Luigi’s Pizza - I haven’t had Luigi’s in a long time (thus only the photo of the front lol) but what I can remember was very delicious and memorable especially the margarita slice
Joe’s Pizza - This is dependent on which location you go to. But a late night Carmine’s location slice is really life saving when hungry and drunk. It’s also sometimes very funny and a great scene there
Stretch Pizza - Their mini NY style pies are seriously addicting (although also not a slice). Their shallot pizza is also one of the craziest pizzas I have ever tasted
Upside Pizza - Upside always for their vodka slice (or a plain) it will always hit the spot. I usually cant walk by without getting one!
Di Fara - OG location only! All the ghost kitchens and the Seaport locations are terrible
BONUS:
Best Pizza - I also like best pizza but for some reason it doesn’t stand out to me. Some people swear by it but to me it’s pretty good but not outstanding. I considered switching Scarr’s place in the list with Best Pizza but just couldn’t decide!
Honorable Mentions:
Cello’s Pizza - I only had it when it was Funzi (it recently changed over to Cello’s) but I heard so far it is amazing. And it was great when it was Funzi so I want to assume it’s just as good but cant be sure since I haven’t been!
Pauli Gees Slice Shop - I used to love their slices. And I still like their Hellboy but I went to have it recently and it was so bad I couldn’t finish it. Not sure what is happening or if it was a bad day but was shocking!
Johns of Bleecker - Not my kind of slice or pie. Still good but I don’t go out of my way to have it. I prefer cheese over lots of sauce
Pizza Tour Routes and Ideas:
I HIGHLY recommend getting a party bus and doing a tour with your friends for a birthday (I combined some of the below routes so that we would be driving more). If you are a big group it’s pretty cheap but SO much fun. Linking the video below of the recap I made of the last one but wow it was awesome and we ended at Sing Sing Karaoke (sadly tiktok removed the sound so there's no VoiceOver but if you want to watch its here)
